It only received a Compton supercharger kit (worth an estimated $8000 at the time) after filming for the first movie concluded, but before the premier happened. In fact, the car was totally stock drivetrain-wise during filming. ![]() As Lieberman has explained in the past, there wasn't actually "100 grand under the hood" of the car. The producers didn't have money to buy the cars outright back then, so they rented them-this one was owned by the actor that played Danny Yamato, the character driving the white Honda Civic in the movie's first race.
